
Softball Drops Two Games On Day Two At The Stanford Nike Invitational

Palo Alto, CA - The UC Riverside softball team continued play on Saturday at the Stanford Nike Invitational, but dropped two contests to nationally ranked teams. The Highlanders (2-6) started off the day with an 8-0 loss to Illinois, a team receiving votes in the polls, and a 10-2 loss to #17/19 ranked Fresno State in the nightcap.
Against Illinois, the Highlanders put up six hits but could not plate a run as they were held scoreless for the second time in three games. Kameryn Hebenton led the team with two hits while four other players tallied one.
Lauren Molina picked up the loss for UCR against the Illini, giving up seven runs, five of them earned, and eight hits. Amy Lwin came in for relief and allowed one run to score for the final 8-0 score.
Against Fresno State later in the evening, the Bulldogs got on board first with two runs in the bottom of the second inning, but the Highlanders responded with two runs in the top of the next inning to tie the game at 2-2.
Ariel Shore started things off with a single and was later advanced to second after Brittany Keeney reached on a error by the pitcher. After Marissa Alvidrez singled to the pitcher to load the bases, Taylor Thomas' (pictured) two RBI single to left field scored Shore and Keeney for the 2-2 tie.
However, the Bulldogs scored eight runs in the bottom of the third inning for the 10-2 win.
Alvidrez pitched 2.2 innings for UCR and gave up ten runs on eight hits, while Amy Lwin pitched 1.1 innings and allowed two hits.
The Highlanders conclude play at the Stanford Nike Invitational with an 11:15 am game against Nevada.
