Men's Tennis Falls In Conference Championships To Conclude Season

Indian Wells, CA - The UC Riverside men's tennis team concluded the 2010 season on Friday morning with a 4-0 loss to UC Irvine in the Big West Conference Championships at Indian Well Tennis Garden. The Highlanders finish the year at 3-17, while the Anteaters (15-11) move on to the semifinals on Saturday.
UCI made quick work of the Highlanders in doubles play, opening with an 8-1 win at No. 3 and an 8-4 victory at No. 1 to take the first point of the match.
In singles competition, the lower three flights finished first with the Anteaters winning all three to stake a 4-0 victory.
Ryan Mayer defeated Sean Peterson 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 to give UCI a 2-0 lead. Stephen Stege then won all but one point in his 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ryan Stanbury at No. 6 for a 3-0 lead, and Steven Henderson closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sean Peterson at No. 4 for the clinching point.
