UC Riverside head softball coach Connie Miner announced today that six players have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Highlanders for the 2013 season.
Brittanie Akey, Pioneer High School
Brittanie, an honor roll selection at Pioneer High School, was the All-Conference Pitcher of the Year and two time MVP of the Tri-County Conference. She was also honored with All-Sacramento River Cats and Sacramento All-Metro Team selections. Brittanie’s travel ball team, the Lady Magic, took seventh at the National Premier Fast Pitch Championship in 2011.
Coach Miner says … “Brittanie is a very talented athlete. She is a true utility player who can play any infield or outfield position as well as pitch. Brittanie is very powerful at the plate as well. I see her having great success and having a strong presence in our program as a freshman.”
Ashley Ercolano, Poway High School
Ashley has been on the honor roll throughout high school and carries over a 3.5 GPA while taking honors and AP classes. Poway High School won the Palomar Conference Championship and several CIF Division playoffs in her tenure. Ashley’s summer team, the California Cruisers, took third out of 164 teams at the 16-and-under national tournament in 2010. The team also won the 2011 Louisville Slugger Tournament that had over 130 teams.
Coach Miner says … “Ashley has the ability to change the game at the plate with power and consistancy. She will also dominate the game on the mound with the control, movement and speed she brings.”
Marissa Escalante, Rodriguez High School
Marissa received First-Team All-League, First-Team All-City, and All-Tournament honors throughout her high school career. In her junior year, Marissa was named to the California All-State First-Team and was honored with Louisville Slugger/NFCA West Regional First Team and All-American Second Team. She also plays on the same summer ball team, the Lady Magic, as Brittanie Akey.
Coach Miner says … “Marissa is an outstanding student-athlete who is very talented behind the plate and at the corners. You cannot stop her production at the plate. Marissa will show these leadership qualities as a freshman and will be a huge factor in helping us take this progam to the next level.”
Meagan Esteban, Brea High School
Meagan received many awards for her play throughout her carer at Brea High School. She is a member of the OC Elite travel ball team that has won and finished in the top-10 of many tournaments throughout California and the country.
Coach Miner says … “Meagan is someone who comes in with outstanding experience and success at many infield and outfield positions. Meagan is mature beyond her years both on and off the field. She brings spend and power to our defense and offense. I look for Meagan to excel as a freshman for us.”
Natalie Sanchez, Valley View High School
Natalie has been successful in the classroom and was named to the All-Inland Valley team every year in high school, and earned All-County honors as a junior.
Coach Miner says … “Natalie is the consistent leader out on the field for her team. She is explosive at the plate and is a wall behind the plate. With Natalie’s natural ability we will also see her at the corner positions as well. She is a gifted young lady who can take her team with her on her shoulders. She will impact our team immediately.”
Sophie Slagle, Palos Verdes High School
Sophie attends Palos Verdes High School where she has had a very successful career both on and off the field. She played for several top travel ball teams, including the OC Batbusters that won the Colorado Sparkler Tournament Championship in 2010.
Coach Miner says … Sophie has tremendous movement and command of her pitches. Sophie will compliment our pitching staff and can have an immediate impact on the mound for us.”
