Softball Can't Complete Comeback Falling 5-3 To Illinois-Chicago

Las Vegas, NV - The UC Riverside softball team was looking to pick up its second win of the 2011 season against Illinois-Chicago on Saturday evening, but could not complete the comeback, falling 5-3 at Eller Media Stadium.
Similar to the Highlanders (1-3) first game of the day, the first couple innings were very much of a pitcher's game as neither team advanced a runner past second base.
UCR was able to string some hits together in the top of the fourth inning on a Jessica Vasser RBI double and Amy Lwin's RBI sac bunt to go up 2-0. UIC (3-1) got one back in its respective fourth to close to 2-1, and took control of the game with a four-run six inning to lead 5-2.
The Highlanders were looking for some more seventh-inning magic, and managed to score one run on Brittany Keeney's single through the right side to make it 5-3. Two straight walks then loaded the bases for UCR, but Jojo Mendoza grounded into a double play to end the inning and the game.
Jordyn McDonald picked up her first loss of the year, pitching just one inning but allowing the winning runs to score.
Both Taylor Thomas and Kameryn Hebenton had two hits apiece to lead UC Riverside, while three different people recorded an RBI.
The Highlanders conclude the UNLV Sportco Kick-Off Classic on Sunday with a 12:15 game against Washington.
