Ryan's Remarks: Another Blog From Men's Tennis Player Ryan Stanbury
3/25/2011 10:13:45 PM | Men's Tennis
UC Riverside men's tennis senior Ryan Stanbury has started writing a blog for gohighlanders.com. Curious about what it's like to be a student-athlete at an NCAA Division I institution? Then Ryan's Remarks are for you!
Check out Ryan's seventh installment on the 2010-11 Highlanders men's tennis program below, or brush up on his first six blogs. Want to ask Ryan questions? Go ahead and email your questions and he will answer them for you on this blog.
"Oakland to Sac Town, the Bay Area and back down." Those are the infamous words of Dr. Dre in the popular song "California Love", and they also describe the route of our trip. Currently we are on the road to Sacramento where we are looking forward to finally getting some tennis in.
Sacramento State has access to indoor facilities so despite the constant deluge we will finally get hit some balls. We are going to have a hit this afternoon indoors and then go to our favorite seafood restaurant in Old Town Sacramento tonight.
It is rare for a kid from Southern California to get an opportunity to play indoors, so I am pretty excited about it. Playing indoors presents many different challenges for a player as the lighting is different and often times the ceilings are low which hamper one's ability to lob.
Additionally, the court plays much faster, something that will be quite a challenge for us to get used to since few of our guys play indoors. There are a few benefits though to playing indoors, namely not having to deal with the sun, wind or other elements.
We are going to be facing a tough Sacramento State team tomorrow and they certainly have an advantage playing indoors, but we are excited about the match and hope to have a good showing. The match will be played tomorrow at 1 at an indoor facility here in Sacramento.
I will be blogging later about our trip to San Francisco as there is not much else to do holed up here in the hotel!
