Ryan's Remarks: A New Blog From Men's Tennis Player Ryan Stanbury

This Friday at 2pm (April 1) at Andulka Park (5051 Chicago Ave, Riverside, 92057) will mark the first time in our program’s history that we have had a match aired on television. It is a rarity in college athletics for sports outside of football, basketball, and baseball to be aired on TV, but for a tennis match to be televised is almost unheard of. Needless to say, we are quite excited about this opportunity, and have been working hard this week to prepare for this match.
Providing the commentary on the match will be tennis legend Brian Teacher, winner of the 1980 Australian Open, one of the four “Glam Slam Events” on the professional tennis circuit. Teacher, who at one time was ranked as high as #7 in the world, compiled an illustrious career which included 8 singles and 16 doubles titles on the tour.
The visiting Anteater’s from UC Irvine are the defending conference champions and are currently nationally ranked. We know that we are going to have to bring our “A” game and effort in order to pull off the upset, but we can’t wait to get started.
This will no doubt be one of the most memorable experiences in many of our collegiate tennis careers, and it is truly and honor and privilege to represent UCR on TV. We would love to have a good crowd out there for the match, so come out and get huge for the Highlanders. Hope to see some of you there.
