Men's Tennis Sends Seniors Home In Style With 5-2 Win Over UC Davis

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside men's tennis team defeated UC Davis 5-2 on Sunday afternoon in Big West Conference action, sending UCR's seniors off in style in the team's home finale.
The Highlanders won the doubles point to open the match, winning two of three matches. Austin Andres and Felix Macherez won their second in a row with an 8-5 win at No. 2, while Raineir Matias and Sean Peterson took down Hallchurch and Albert 8-4 at No. 3.
Andres was the first singles victory for the Highlanders, as he defeated Kyle Miller in identical 6-1, 6-1 sets at No. 4. Macherez was next as he also won in identical 6-1, 6-1 fashion over Toki Sherbakov at No. 2.
Needing just one more point, the clincher came for the Highlanders at No. 5, as Ryan Stanbury defeated Alec Haley 6-4, 6-3 to give UCR a 4-2 lead. Kevin Griffin added a fourth singles win for the Highlanders as he grinded out a 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 victory at No. 6.
The win snaps a 10-match skid, and marks the first Big West win for UCR men's tennis since Feb. 18, 2007.
The Highlanders now prepare for the Big West Conference Championship beginning on Friday, May 29 at Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, CA.
