Ek Tied For Third As Women's Golf Sits Sixth At Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate

Riverside, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Golf Team shaved 16 strokes off its first and second rounds Saturday at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate, and currently sit in sixth place out 19 squads with a two-round 616 total.
The Highlanders fired a 316 in round one with just two scores in the 70s, but came back with a 300 in round two, utilizing four scores in the 70s.
Fresno State leads the team competition with a 580 total followed by the College of Charleston with a 594, and Cal State Fullerton with 602.
UC Riverside is only four shots back of fourth-place San Francisco (612), two strokes behind the host Cowgirls (614), but have just a one-shot lead over Northern Arizona and Montana with identical 617 totals.
Individually, Amelia Ek paces the Highlanders squad with a 146 firing rounds of 73-73 to tie for third place. Savannah Vilaubi is tied for 15th with scores of 76-74 (150).
Freshman Hannah Lee rebounded from a first-round 83 to shoot 74 in round two, totaling 157 for 38th place. Brittani Ferraro also lowered her scores, carding 84-79 (163) to tie for 71st.
Christy Fogerty is tied for 95th place with a 170 (84-86), while Tiffany Koyano—playing as an individual—is tied for 38th with a 157 (79-78).
Fresno State's Chrstine Uhalde is the clubhouse leader with a 140 (71-69).
The tournament concludes Sunday morning with a final 18-hole round.
