Riverside—UC Riverside's Seth Totten finished in 14th place Saturday morning at the Big West Conference Cross Country Championship as the UC Riverside Men's Team came in sixth finishing just eight points behind Long Beach State in fifth (View Complete Results).
The team championship was never in doubt as the top five Cal Poly runners all finished in the top 10, including Chris Frias (24:10.0), Blake Ahrold (24:13.9) and Mitchell Moriarity (24:14.6) who finished 1-2-3.
The last time a team swept the top three spots on the men's side was in 2007 when the Mustangs took the top five spots en route to the lowest team score in the history of the championship.
UC Santa Barbara finished in second place, putting three runners in the top 10 while UC Irvine came in third and UC Davis finished in fourth.
Cesar Solis was the next highest Highlanders finisher as he came in 25th with a time of 25:33.5. He was followed closely by Michael Gauger whose time of 25:45.3 was good enough for 28 points. Nic Beechan (26:52.6) and Sebastian Puraci (27:24.1) rounded out the UC Riverside scoring with 42 and 46 points respectively.
The Highlanders now prepare for the NCAA West Regional Championship November 10 in Seattle, WA.
