Irvine, CA—UC Riverside freshman pitcher Taylor Alvarez was named the Big West Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played March 26-April 1.
Alvarez pitched two complete games last week for the Highlanders, going 2-0 while allowing just one earned run.
In a midweek game against CSU Bakersfield, the Canyon Lake native pitched all seven innings giving up one earned run as the Highlanders defeated the Runners 2-1.
Against UC Davis on Sunday, Alvarez shutout the Aggies—her second shutout of the season—as UCR cruised to an 8-0 win in six innings.
For the week, Alvarez enjoyed an ERA of 0.54, while limiting opposing batters to an average of .205.
This is Alvarez's first Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week honor, and the first for UC Riverside since Jordyn McDonald garnered the award on February 21, 2011.
