Indian Wells, CA—The #6 seeded UC Riverside Men's Tennis team lost 4-0 to #3 seeded UC Irvine on Friday afternoon in the first round of the Big West Conference Championship at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The Anteaters took the doubles point by winning matches at numbers two and three. Simon Peters and Jimmy Roberts dropped an 8-2 decision at No. 3, and Luis Gastao and Kevin Griffin also lost 8-2 at No. 2.
Austin Andres and Felix Macherez were leading 7-5 at No. 1 doubles before the match was halted.
In singles action, UC Irvine won the first three matches to seal the 4-0 victory.
Kelly Dickson was defeated 6-1, 6-0 by Ryan Cheung at No. 6, while Simon Peters dropped a 6-4, 6-2 match at number five, and Jimmy Roberts lost 6-1, 6-0 to Sam Gould at number two.
The Highlanders matches at numbers one, three and four went unfinished since the Anteaters had the four points needed to win.
UC Riverside concludes the season at 6-18, while UC Irvine moves on to play UC Santa Barbara on Saturday morning at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
