Gatewood Is Budweiser Responsibility Matters Good Sport Of The Month

Riverside—Anheuser-Busch has teamed up with the UC Riverside Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and chosen Women's Track & Field athlete Ashley Gatewood as the June recipient of the "Budweiser Responsibility Matters Good Sport of the Month." At the Big West Conference Championships in May, Gatewood won the title in the javelin, took third in the hammer throw and finished fifth in the shot put, accounting for 20 of UC Riverside’s 82 points.
The Montclair native was one of eight members of the Highlanders to travel to Austin, TX for the NCAA West Prelims from May 24-26 where she participated in the javelin and the hammer.
The top 12 finishers in each event advance to the NCAA Championships in June, and Gatewood missed out on a ticket for that trip in the javelin by the slimest of margins - 1 inch.
Gatewood was also named UC Riverside's Female Student-Athlete of the Year at the 2011-12 Highlanders Awards Ceremony.
