9/10/2012 12:22:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Irvine, CA—The Big West announced today that UC Riverside Men's Soccer player Aaron Long is the conference offensive player of the week for matches played from September 3-9.
The Highlanders (5-0) are the only team remaining in the Big West with an unblemished record this season thanks in large part to the efforts of the Oak Hills, CA native. Long scored the game-winner in a 4-3, double overtime victory at UNLV on Sunday on a header with 8:24 remaining in the match (box score/recap).
The junior also was credited with an assist on the Highlanders first goal of the afternoon which tied the match at one apiece. Long leads the team with three goals and an assist for seven points on the season.
Earlier today, the Highlanders received their first-ever listing in the College Soccer News Top 30 rankings checking in at number 30 (story).
Long joins teammate Ashkan Khosravi as members of the Highlanders to have won weekly conference awards this season. The freshman keeper was named defensive player of the week for his two shutout performances in the first week of the season (story/all-time UCR player of the week honorees).
UCR's five-match winning streak is the longest in its 12-year Division I history. The team’s longest unbeaten streak is six matches set last season.
