UCR BMW Of Riverside Gary McCord Golf Challenge Tees Off With Unique Enhancements

Riverside—The UCR BMW of Riverside Gary McCord Golf Challenge begins Saturday night at the local BMW dealership, as participants will enjoy the tee-off party, and day one of the unique three-day event.
"When we discussed the possibility of BMW of Riverside being the title sponsor with Tom Naso (GM of BMW of Riverside), we both agreed that the event needed to be an elite experience for the participants," said UC Riverside Senior Associate Athletics Director Eric Buskirk.
Supporters will be able to enjoy live music, the UCR Pipe Band, auction items, valet parking, hors d'oeuvres, and beverages, along with some very notable speakers in the opening day's event.
UC Riverside Chancellor Kim Wilcox will speak to the crowd Saturday night, as will interim Athletics Director Jim Wooldridge, and former Highlanders' baseball player turned Hollywood actor Stephen Bishop.
Bishop is best known for portraying David Justice in the 2011 Academy-Award nominated movie, "Moneyball," and recently wrapped shooting on the Katie Holmes vehicle "Miss Meadows."
Along with the addition of the opening night tee-off party, the event will include two days of golf at two different courses.
Sunday, participants will tee off at Canyon Crest Country Club, with the final round being played at Victoria Club on Monday.
To make things even more interesting, a Challenge Cup has been added pitting Canyon Crest Country Club vs. The Victoria Club in a team challenge play event.
Finally, Riverside Mayor Rusty Bailey will be onsite Monday night to present the winning club the official challenge cup.
"We are excited to not only help host this scholarship fundraising event, but to also be a part of the friendly competition vs Canyon Crest Country Club," said Jeff Cross, Victoria Club head golf professional.
"We have a majority of our team play club members participating in the challenge, so this should be a fun competition," added Jennifer Dolph, Canyon Crest Country Club head golf professional and former UC Riverside assistant golf coach.
The Country Club challenge will be highlighted with both clubs general managers and head professionals participating in the lead pairings over the two days.
Along with the club challenge, the corporate sponsors and general team participants will be competing in the two day challenge in an open division competition.
"We live in a competitive intercollegiate athletics environment, so we wanted to add a little extra competitive spirit to the event," explained Buskirk. "Participants will get to view their scores after each day, and feel a true tournament type atmosphere."
