Ted Hooper Breaks Long Jump Record For Second Straight Week
2/10/2013 6:28:00 PM | Men's Track and Field
Seattle—Ted Hooper broke the school record in the men's long jump for the second straight week as his leap of 7.19m (23' 7.25") at the Husky Classic on Saturday was 3.25 inches better than his record jump at last week's Mountain T's Invitational. That was good enough for second place overall in the meet, and was the top mark by a collegian (Complete Results).
Ryan Swafford took another run at the school triple jump record, but came up 7.50" short. His top distance of 15.57m (51' 1.00") was the best jump of the day however as he took first place.
On the women's side, freshman thrower Breana Jemison continues to impress early in her career as she finished in fifth place in the women's shot put and in 17th in the women's weight throw Saturday afternoon at the University of Washington's Husky Classic.
Competing against athletes from programs like Washington, Colorado, Utah and Idaho, Jemison improved her personal best in the shot put by more than three feet with a distance of 14.26m (46' 9.50"). The school record of 48' 1.0" held by Evangela Dixon would seem to be well within her reach.
Jemison's top distance in the weight throw of 16.05m (52' 8.00") is just under 10 feet shy of the Highlanders record of 19.04m (62' 5.75") set by Brittani Daniels on February 19, 2011. Deja Watkins's top mark in the weight throw of 14.63m (48' 0.00") was good enough for 29th.
Briana Kennedy-Feldhaus nearly bested her week-old record in the women's 60m hurdles as her time of 8.71 seconds was good enough for seventh in the women's 60m hurdles followed by Jazmine Lewis (9.16) who tied for 24th.
