San Jacinto, CA - The UC Riverside Men's Golf Team shot a 302 Sunday in the first round of the Big West Conference Championship at the Country Club at Soboba Springs to tie for sixth place out of 10 teams with two rounds to go.
The Highlanders are tied with Cal Poly in sixth, just one shot back of fifth-place UC Davis (301), and 10 back of the leader, Hawai'i, with a 292. Cal State Fullerton sits in second at 293 followed by Long Beach State (297) and Pacific (298).
David Gazzolo is tied for third place individually to lead UCR carding an even-par 72, three strokes behind the leaders, UH's Nainao Calip and CSF's Corey Guard with scores of 69.
Other scores for the Highlanders include a 75 from Jason Semthiti (T19), 77 from Christian Rajcic (T31), 78 from BJ Doucett (T35) and 79 from Ryan Smith (T40).
Round two of the Big West Conference Championship gets underway with tee times starting at 7:15 am Monday morning.
