Late Goal Gives Cal Poly 1-0 Victory Over Men's Soccer
10/9/2014 10:09:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Riverside--The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team had Cal Poly on the ropes Thursday evening, outshooting the Mustangs 24-9, but despite a number of good UCR scoring opportunities, it was Cal Poly whose late goal helped the Mustangs a 1-0 victory (Video Recap).
UCR peppered the Cal Poly goal to the tune of 10 shots on the night, but Wade Hamilton and his defense were up to the task, keeping the back of their net clean.
It looked as if the teams might head into overtime, but in the 82nd minute Chase Minter collected a short clear out of the Highlanders defensive end, and deposited it past UCR keeper KC John.
The Highlanders pressed to tie the score over the final eight minutes and change, but were unable to do so.
UC Riverside remains at home this week as they host UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, October 11 beginning at 7 pm PT.
