Northridge--The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team entered Saturday's match at Northridge looking to move to the .500 mark in conference play, but instead, those in attendance saw the Matadors pick up their first Big West win of the season with a 2-1 victory.

The Highlanders (2-9-2, 1-3-1) had a slight edge in shots, 20-19, but CSUN got on the board first as Marino Peixoto took a cross from Gabe Robinson in the 37th minute and bet UCR goalkeeper Ashkan Khosravi to put the Matadors on top, 1-0.

Northridge (5-7-2, 1-3-1) made it 2-0 in the 58th minute when David Turcios beat his defender and sent a chip into the box towards the conference's leading scorer, Sagi Lev-Ari, who promptly headed the ball home for his eighth score of the year.

UC Riverside cut the lead in half with 3:25 to go in the match as Romario Lomelli scored his first goal of the season, but that was all the offense UCR could manage.

The Highlanders return home this week for the start of a three-match home stand beginning with a Thursday, October 22 meeting with UC Irvine. Kickoff is slated to 7 pm PT.
