Men's Soccer Opens BWC Play Exploding For Four Goals In 4-0 Shutout at Sac State

Sacramento, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team opened Big West Conference play on Thursday exploding for four goals to defeat Sacramento State, 4-0. This marks the first time since the 2011 season that the Highlanders (2-6-1, 1-0-0) won their league opener.
Stephen Copley got UCR on the board less than 14 minutes into the match as Ricardo Ruiz had a free kick from 30 yards out that Copley headed into the net off the crossbar.
Michael Salazer made it 2-0 Highlanders in the 22nd minute as he put back a shot that was initially blocked from a Hornets defender.
UC Riverside wasn't done scoring as Andre Parada scored at the 35:00 minute mark off a corner kick that was deflected, and Otis Earle found the back of the net less than 25 seconds before the half putting UCR on top, 4-0.
That score held for the rest of the game as the Highlanders defense gave up just three shots on goal, and starting keeper Ashkan Khosravi added two saves.
The Highlanders remain on the road this weekend as they travel to UC Davis, Saturday for a 3 pm PT kick off against the Aggies.
