
Men's Soccer Clinches South Division Championship With 2-0 Win At UC Irvine

Irvine—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team clinched the Big West South Division Championship Wednesday evening, and with it a first-round bye in the conference tournament which begins this Saturday, thanks to a 2-0 road win over #18 UC Irvine.
The Highlanders will get to rest up until the semifinals on Wednesday, November 12 while the numbers two and three seeds in each Division battle in the First Round of the tournament. UCR will face the winner of the UC Davis-Cal State Fullerton match at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium beginning at 7 pm PT.

Sophomore Tyler Miguel provided UC Riverside with all of its offense Wednesday evening scoring in the 24th and 34th minutes to give the Highlanders a 2-0 lead. Those were the first two scores of the season for Miguel, who had two goals as a freshman a year ago.
It was then up to the UC Riverside defense to hold the lead, and goalkeeper KC John, making his third start of the season, recorded six saves on the day in UCR's fourth clean sheet of the season.
The Highlanders upended the Anteaters two weeks ago when UC Irvine was ranked number two in the nation. UCR has now won five of the last eight meetings between the clubs.
UCR is 0-2 in Big West Tournament action having lost three years ago by a 2-0 score at UC Irvine, and last year in a 3-1 decision at UC Davis. In both of those instances, the Highlanders were the lower seed playing on the road.
