Cooper Bridge Named Big West Men's Tennis Athlete Of The Week

Irvine—The Big West Conference announced Wednesday that UC Riverside freshman Cooper Bridge was named Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for matches played January 27-February 2.
Bridge led the Highlanders on a four-match trip to Las Vegas over the weekend, and came away with his third and fourth dual singles victories of the young season.
He handed Weber State's Landon Barlow a 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 defeat at the No. 4 position in UCR's 5-2 loss to the Wildcats (recap). Moving up to the No. 3 spot on the singles ladder, Bridge subdued Southern Mississippi's Vasco Valverde by a 6-0, 6-2 score (recap).
Bridge and doubles partner Michael Carella also won at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, in a match that UCR narrowly lost to the Golden Eagles, 4-3.
Bridge is the first member of the Highlanders to earn Big West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors since Austin Andres on February 4, 2009.
