Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team had undefeated Bakersfield on the ropes Thursday evening, leading 1-0 midway through the second half, but the Roadrunners scored two goals in just over a minute, and added a third to walk away with a 3-1 victory (view video recap).

Juan Mendoza Jr. collected his second goal of the season with just 5:10 gone off the clock, as the 'Runners (4-0-0) were whistled for a foul in the Highlanders' box. He converted on the penalty kick to put UC Riverside up, 1-0.

That score held up until the 70th minute of play when Simon Doherty drove through the UCR (1-3-0) defense and into the 18. The ball was stripped away from him, but he regained control, and was able to beat Highlanders keeper Ashkan Khosravi to tie the score at one.

One minute and one second later, Christian Duarte took a James Garces pass just outside the UC Riverside box on the left side. He crossed the ball to the other side of the pitch where Jamie Carey-Morrell settled the ball and scored from 25 yards out putting the Roadrunners on top, 2-1.

The Highlanders were called for a penalty in their defensive 18 with 7:05 remaining, and David Velasquez ended the scoring by converting on the penalty kick.

UC Riverside remains at home this weekend as the Highlanders host Santa Clara on Sunday beginning at 7 pm PT.
