Under Par Rounds From Gillis And Gazzolo Help Men's Golf Move Up One Spot At Nick Watney Inv.

Fresno, CA—UC Riverside Men's Golf fired the second-lowest round of the day on Tuesday in the final round of the Nick Watney Invitational, benefiting from under-par scores from David Gazzolo and Sam Gillis. Complete Results. Day 1 Story.
Gillis shot a 68 while Gazzolo fired a 69 as the Highlanders shot 283 in the final round to leapfrog Bakersfield and finish in ninth place out of 10 squads. UCR's 869 three-round total was just three back of sixth place, and nine behind a tie for third.
Pacific held on to their first-day lead to win the tournament with an 838 while host Fresno State finished second at 858.
Gazzolo moved up 12 spots to finish in a tie for 11th overall with a three-round score of 214 (76-69-69), while Gillis moved up 17 places tying for 14th at 215 (73-74-68).
Matt Lutz tied for 38th with scores of 78-72-73 (223) while Brandon Tsujimoto tied for 46th with a 224 (76-75-73), and Andre Vu placed 54th at 71-76-81 (228). Playing as an individual, Pachara Sakulyong also tied for 46th with a 224 (78-73-73).
Pacific's Byron Meth held on to his first-day lead to win the individual crown, beating out Cal Poly's Mitchell Martin by just one stroke.
UC Riverside now has a few weeks off before concluding their fall slate at the Bill Cullum Invitational scheduled for October 20-21 in Simi Valley, CA.
