Gillis and Gazzolo Fire Under Par Scores For A Highlander Fourth Place Finish At The Barona Collegiate Cup

San Diego, CA—UC Riverside Men's Golf fired the fourth-lowest score through three rounds at The Barona Collegiate Cup over Monday and Tuesday. Final Results.

Sam Gillis shot a 70 in the final round of the tournament for an overall score or 207, placing him in a tie for fourth place and nine under par. Taking the individual victory was Xander Schauffele out of San Diego State, firing a 199 over two days, and recording a 64 in both the second and third round.

David Gazzolo was the only other Highlander to place in the top-20, tying for sixth  with PJ Samiere from San Diego State. Gazzolo shots 69s in the first two rounds, completely the tournamentone stroke behind Gillis with 208.

The Highlanders shot a team total 857 in a tie for fourth with UC Irvine, moving up one spot from day one. San Diego State took home the team victory firing 833, 31 strokes under par.

UC Riverside finished ahead of fellow Big West member UC Santa Barbara.

The Highlanders will compete in the Wyoming Desert Classic Feb. 20-22 in Palm Desert, California.
