Softball 3-2 After Opening Weekend At The Kajikawa Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Tempe, AZ- The UC Riverside Softball Team closed out its opening to the 2015 season 3-2 at the Kajikawa Classic hosted by Arizona State. The Highlanders started Sunday morning with a 3-1 victory over Seattle and ended on a 6-1 win over San Jose State.

Chelsea Ponce was clutch on the mound for the day, striking out 13 batters from Seattle over seven innings and two from San Jose in four innings. Ponce only allowed for a total of seven hits for the day through her 11 innings.

The Highlanders' bats were on fire in both games for the day, combining for a total 20 hits, 12 of which occurring in their game against Seattle.

In the victory over San Jose, the Highlanders scored all six of their runs in the third inning with five of their eight hits and caused the Spartans to commit two errors.

At the end of five games Harris leads the Highlanders with a .438 batting average, recording seven hits over the weekend. Ponce leads the pitching staff with a 3-1 record and a 0.78 ERA through a total 23 innings pitched.

The Highlanders will be on the road again Feb. 13 at the Fresno State Kick Off. They will match up against Fresno State for their first of five games that weekend at 6 pm PT.
