Stephen Copley Named Big West Defensive Player Of The Week

Irvine, CA—The Big West today announced that UC Riverside defender Stephen Copley (Torrance, CA) is the conference Defensive Player of the Week for matches played from October 3-9.

The senior was a key piece of a stout defensive line that limited offensive-minded UC Davis and Sacramento State to one goal combined. The Highlanders emerged from their northern California road swing with a 2-1 win over the Aggies and a 2-0 shutout of the Hornets.

Sacramento State scored 12 goals in its previous seven matches before UCR put the clamps on led by Copley. Meanwhile, the Aggies scored seven goals in their three other conference matches before being held to a single strike versus the Highlanders.

UCR is off to its best four-match start in league play at 3-0-1, and has already won more Big West matches than it did all last year.
The Highlanders host UC Irvine on Wednesday, October 12 at 7 pm PT, before heading out on the road again for a Saturday, October 15 match at Cal State Fullerton beginning at 1 p m.
