Irvine, CA—The Big West announced today that UC Riverside Men's Soccer players Romario Lomeli, Stephen Copley, Philipp Dominique, Eduardo Sanchez and Vincent Morales were named Big West, All-Conference.
Lomeli was named to the First Team following a regular season that saw him lead the league in assists (9), and finish third in points (19). Early in the year, he became the Highlanders career leader in assists, and the Panorama City, California native also leads the team in goals with five. This is the third all-conference honor for Lomeli, who was also named to the Big West All-Freshman Team in 2013.
Defenders Copley (
Torrance, CA) and Dominique (
Redlands, CA) were each named to the Second Team after anchoring a UC Riverside defense that allowed the program's third lowest goals against average since the Highlanders made the move to the Big West Conference in 2001. In Big West matches, UCR posted a goals against average of 0.88—second lowest in the league. Copley added three scores on the season, while Dominique chipped in with two goals and an assist.
It is Copley's third All-Conference nod following a Honorable Mention selection as a sophomore, and a Second Team performance as a junior. Dominique was an All-Big West Honorable Mention selection as a junior in 2014.
Morales (
Bellfower, CA) earned Honorable Mention accolades. pacing conference goalkeepers in saves (99), saves per match (5.21), and save percentage (.818), while finishing second in wins (9) and shutouts (5).
Sanchez, a forward from Bloomington, California, joined Morales on the Honorable Mention Team after netting two goals and two assists in his first season with the Highlanders. He was also named to the Big West All-Freshman Team.
The Highlanders travel to Sacramento State this Saturday, November 5 for their first round Big West Conference Tournament match. Kick off is slated for 3 om PT. This is the fourth trip to the conference tournament in the last six seasons for UC Riverside.
