Riverside—UC Riverside Head Men's Soccer Coach Tim Cupello announced today the hiring of Ryan Carruth as the team's new assistant coach.
"I am incredibly excited to have Ryan join our staff," said Cupello. "He not only has a tremendous coaching background, but his knowledge of the Southern California recruiting trails and youth academies will help us grow the program and build on the success of the past several years."
Carruth comes to Riverside after serving as the head coach at Heidelberg University in Ohio for the past year. Prior to that, he spent eight years in the San Diego area as an assistant coach at San Diego State University and Point Loma Nazarene University. During that time Carruth also worked for two of the nation's top youth clubs in Albion SC and San Diego Surf Soccer Club.
"I am honored to have this opportunity to join the Highlander Soccer family. Coach Cupello, and Coach Gonzalez before him, have done an amazing job turning UC Riverside into a perennial Big West contender," added Carruth, "and I can't wait to to get started this offseason doing my part to helping build a championship program here in Riverside."
A native of Colorado, Carruth played collegiately at St. Lawrence University in New York winning the NCAA Championship in 1999. The Saints put together a 60-match unbeaten streak during his time with the program, becoming the first-ever untied or undefeated team in NCAA Soccer history. During the team's championship run, Carruth was St. Lawrence's leading scorer, and was named a Second-Team, All-American.
He followed his collegiate career with a professional stint with the Rochester Rhinos.
