Rancho Santa Fe-The UC Riverside Men's Golf Team moved up three spots on the team leaderboard to finish in a tie for third place, and Sam Gillis jumped up to finish sixth on the final day of the Farms Collegiate Invitational. (

The Highlanders entered the third and final round seventh after finishing up the second round in the morning. UCR as a team shot a final round -1, 287, the second best team round of the day, only bettered by eventual champion #40 SMU who shot -8, 280 as a team.
SMU (856,-8) ran away from the pack on the final day, finishing 29 shots clear of second place San Francisco (885,+21) and 38 ahead of the Highlanders and UC Irvine (894,+30) in third.

UCR passed three schools on the way to a tie for third place; host San Diego, Old Dominion, and Fresno State. They finished tied with Big West foe UC Irvine, who they outplayed by 18 shots in the final round.
Matt Lutz (221, +5), who finished T12, had the low Highlander round of the day, with a three under-par 69.

He was joined in red figures by Michael Wong (T28, 228, +12), who shot a one under par 71, and Sam Gillis (216, E), who fired a two-under 70, landing him inside the top-10 for a fourth time this season.

SMU's Ryan Burgess (209, -7) shot a day-low final round 68 to claim the individual title, just two shots clear of teammate Austin Smotherman (212, -5) who also shot 68, and Old Dominion's Seth Sweet (212, -5).
Andrew Spilman (232,+16) finished T44, Pachara Sakulyong (237,+21) T55, as did Brandon Tsujimoto (237,+21), who played as an individual.

The last time UCR played in the Farms Inivitational was in 2014, when they finished 8th.
