Davis—The Highlanders scored a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to earn a, 4-2, victory over UC Davis for a series sweep of the Aggies.
Tayler Misfeldt held the home team to just one hit through three innings, before allowing two runs on two hits in the fifth.
In the top of the second, UC Riverside got on the board thanks to a Stephanie Tickemyer bloop single to left that scored Chelsey Holley. Neither team would score until the top of the fifth, when the Highlanders would begin their scoring streak. With two outs and Haley Harris standing on first base, Jenna Curtan doubled to center field, scoring Harris to make it a 2-0 game.
UC Davis would finally get to Misfeldt in the bottom half of the fifth, when Meghan Bradbury tripled with two outs and a runner on. She would come in to score on the play on a fielding error by Jenae Lockwood at third, tying the game at two apiece.
After walks to Tickemyer, Richard, and Rodriguez loaded the bases, Harris took a 3-1 pitch out of the strike zone to walk in the go-ahead run.
Courtnie Ploesch drew a two-out walk in the top of the seventh, bringing Tickemyer to plate. She drove the first pitch she saw into left center, just out of the reach of the diving left fielder. Ploesch would come in to score an insurance run on the double by Tickemyer, giving the Highlanders a 4-2 lead.
Misfeldt retired the Aggies in order in the sixth and seventh to earn her league leading 20th win of the season. Tickemyer had two hits, two RBIs and scored a run. Curtan and Holley had two hits apiece in the victory.
With a 7-5 record in Big West play, UCR is tied for second place with CSUN. The 2010 season is last time the team was as high as second place in the standings, as well as two games over .500 in conference play.
The Highlanders return home to face CSUN in the Big West home finale. Seniors Erika Campbell, Courtnie Ploesch and Natalie Sanchez will be recognized before Sunday's series finale at 1 pm.
