Wolfe/Vaksman Pick Up Doubles Win In Day One Of Beach Tennis Fall Tournament

Long Beach, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Tennis Team completed the first round of the Beach Tennis Fall Tournament Friday. The Highlanders' doubles tandem of Lauren Wolfe and Tamika Vaksman won their flight B doubles match, 6-2, while Wolfe and Abby Valera each pushed their opponents to three sets in the Highlanders' most competitive singles matches of the day.

GAME NOTES
Tamila Vaksman and Lauren Wolfe are now 2-1 as a doubles team in their careers having gone 1-1 in fall tournaments a year ago.
Abby Valera won the first set of her singles match 6-4, but was narrowly defeated in the second and third sets by identical 7-6 scores. The last time she played an opponent that forced a third set was November 2016 at the CSUN Invitational where Valera won 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 (story).
Wolfe also won the first set of her first round singles match-up (7-5), but fell 6-1 and 6-2 in the second and third sets.
Saturday and Sunday's competition begins at 9 am with doubles play, followed by singles.
The second round and semifinal matches in the singles bracket take place Saturday, and the championship/consolation finals are set for Sunday morning.
Other teams participating in the tournament are Grand Canyon, LMU, Montana, Portland State, Washington State, and Big West schools Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, and UC Irvine.
