San Diego, CA– The UC Riverside Softball Team fell in both of games Thursday in the abbreviated Campbell/Cartier Classic in San Diego.
In the first game of the day versus event host San Diego State, the Highlanders were held to just three hits in their 3-0 loss to the Aztecs. Haley Harris (1-3), Jenae Lockwood (1-1), and Danielle Ortega (1-3) had the hits for UC Riverside.
Haley Marschall kept SDSU off the board until the third inning, when the Aztecs put up a single run, which they would also do in the fourth and fifth in going ahead, 3-0. Tayler Misfeldt came on in relief, and pitched a scoreless one and a third innings, but the Highlanders could not take advantage.
Against #8 Washington, Lockwood would go 2-2 with a double and scored UC Riverside's only run of the game in their 14-1 defeat to Huskies in five innings. Brittney Garcia brought in Lockwood in the fourth to make it a 12-1 game.
The Highlanders host Siena in their home opener Wednesday, February 22 at Amy S. Harrison Field at 2 pm.
