Gillis Comes In 12th, Men's Golf Tied For 13th At The Del Walker Intercollegiate

Long Beach, CA–Sam Gillis finished in a tied for 12th overall, and the UC Riverside Men's Golf Team tied for 13th in the Long Beach State hosted Del Walker Intercollegiate at Virginia Country Club. (Final results)

Gillis entered the final 18 tied for second after completing his second round, which was suspended due to darkness, Tuesday morning. The junior from San Jacinto carded a four-under par (70) 66 in a round that featured five birdies and just one bogey. He was done in by a double at the 383 yard, par 4 eighth–a hole which he made par on in the two previous rounds. He would go on to play the next nine hole at +6 for a final round 78.

Matt Lutz had his best two rounds of the spring with a two-over par 72 in the second round, and three-over 73 in the third.

Boise State claimed the team title by four strokes ahead Cal Poly, led by medalist Brian Humpreys (-1), who held off a trio of challengers just a shot back at even par.

UC Riverside returns to action next Monday in the Sacramento State Invitational March 6-7.
