Tickemyer Ends Both Victories Over Quinnipiac In Walk-off Fashion

Riverside, CA –The UC Riverside Softball Team notched a pair of victories over Quinnipiac Wednesday at Amy S. Harrison Softball Field.

In the first game of the day, the team rallied after falling behind early in the first, 1-0, to score four runs in a variety of ways in the home half of the inning. The Highlanders scored on an RBI single, a sac-fly, a bases loaded walk, and a fielder's choice.

UCR tacked on two more in the second on Haley Harris' second RBI hit of the game, and a throwing error by the Bobcats.

Quinnipiac scored three in the third on starter Haley Marschall, who gave way to Anessa Cepeda with two out.

In the bottom of the third, Harris stepped in the box with two on, and doubled to center scoring Richard and Stephanie Tickemyer. The Highlanders would score four in the inning to go ahead 10-4.

UC Riverside added a run in the fourth to put the game in mercy rule territory, and ended the game, 12-4, in the bottom of the sixth, when Tickemyer drove in Brittney Garcia with a single up the middle.

Cepeda went to 6-0 on the year having pitched a scoreless three and a third for the win. Harris finished with three hits, four RBIs, and three runs scored.

The second game of the day against Quinnipiac saw the Highlanders take a 2-1 lead into top of the seventh. Cepeda got the start in game two and dazzled against the Bobcats for four innings before they pushed one across in the fifth.

UC Riverside put up two in the fourth thanks to a Maddy Richard RBI single coupled with a throwing error that allowed Curtan to come in right after Garcia.

Cepeda appeared to be on her way to completing the game, but showed signs of fatigue in the seventh and allowed a lead-off double, followed by a triple that tied the game at two apiece.

Tayler Misfeldt came on in relief of Cepeda with nobody out, and allowed two runs to cross to send UCR into the bottom of the seventh trailing 4-2.

Junior transfer Jenae Lockwood reached on single to left and moved up to second on errand throw. Chelsey Holley then came to bat and doubled down the left field  line scoring Lockwood.

Garcia then came up to with two out, and hit a ball just over the first baseman's head that allowed pinch runner Sarah Gailey to score the game-tying run, 4-4.

Both coaches agreed to go to the international tie-break rule from the eighth inning on. In the top of the eighth, Misfeldt showed her resolve and retired the Bobcats in order on eight pitches.

Curtain started out the inning on second base for UCR, and went to third on a Shylene Helms sac bunt.

Tickemyer then swung at the first pitch she saw, and hit a pop-up into foul territory behind first base. The second baseman made an over the shoulder catch, which allowed Curtan to tag up and slide in under the throw for the, 5-4 victory.

Misfeldt earned the win, and Tickemyer ended her second game of the day–this time with a game-winning sac-fly.

Coach Palmer's squad will break for finals and resume the 17th game of the 21 game home stand on Friday March 24th against Pacific at 11:30 am.
