Misfeldt Dominates Game Two Of The Series, Softball Drops Finale In Hawai'i

Honolulu, O'Ahu–Tayler Misfeldt dominated the middle game of the series with a complete-game four-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory, and the UC Riverside Softball Team dropped the series finale in Hawai'i 5-0.

GAME TWO

Misfeldt tossed her third complete-game shutout of the year, a four-hit, four-strikeout, one walk performance. She didn't allow runner to reach third base, and faced just four hitters above the minimum.

The Highlanders got an RBI single from Hannah Rodriguez in top of the first to give Misfeldt a 1-0 advantage before facing a Hawaii'i hitter.

In the third, Brittney Garcia drove in Maddy Richard, who led off the inning with a walk.

Jenna Curtan provided an insurance run in the top of the seventh with a two-out triple down the left field line that scored Haley Harris to make it 3-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Misfeldt would allow the third hit of the evening before closing out the game for her ninth win of 2017.

Curtan led the UCR offense in the win going two-for-four at the plate with a run scored and an RBI. Brittney Garcia also had two hits, and drive in a run as well.

SERIES FINALE

In the series finale at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium, the Highlanders would struggle to solve Hawai'i's Brittany Hitchcock. Hitchcock held the Highlanders to three hits, and walked none in going the distance in the 5-0 win.

Anessa Cepeda took the ball to start the series finale, and allowed just two hits to the Rainbow Wahine over the first four innings,

A pair of errors on the first two plays in the bottom of the fifth led to Hawai'i (25-15, 4-5) scoring three runs in the frame on a two-out bases clearing triple by Danielle Garcielita, the final hitter Cepeda faced.

Haley Marschall got the third out in the fifth, but gave up lead-off homer to Nicole Lopez to start the home half of the sixth.

Hawai'i tacked on the fifth run in the bottom of the sixth, before Hitchcock retired UCR (21-17, 3-6) in order to end the game.

She moved 16-7 on the year, while Cepeda dropped to 6-2 with the loss.

The UC Riverside Softball Team will hosts CSU Bakersfield Wednesday, April 19 in a double-header starting at 1 pm at Amy S. Harrison Field.
