Riverside–The series finale between UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton featured a match-up of winners from game one and two of the season opening double-header, Tayler Misfeldt and Cerissa Rivera.
Both went the distance in their respective team's victories on Saturday, and on Sunday they both turned in complete-game 12 inning pitching performances.
Cal State Fullerton came away with a 1-0 win after getting an RBI single in the top of the 12th from Delynn Rippy.
Misfeldt got her third start of the weekend in Sunday's series finale. She came into the game with 10-inning scoreless streak in tow, and would extend it to 21 innings before the Titans scored the game winner in the 12th.
Misfeldt threw 143 pitches, just a shade under 12 pitches per inning as she masterfully induced putout after putout as well as struck out five and walked three.
The Highlanders struggled to get runners in scoring position as they left 14 on base and did not have a runner reach third base.
Maddy Richard went 5-6 at the plate to record her second career five-hit game, and was joined by Lockwood (2-6) as the only players to log multiple hits against Rivera.
The 12-inning battle was the longest game since to 2015 season, when UC Davis extended UCR to 13 innings, before the Highlanders came away a 1-0 victory.
Misfeldt's record fell to 8-2, while Rivera went 4-1 in 2017.
UC Riverside continues in Big West play next weekend, when heads up the coast to face UC Santa Barbara April 8-9.
