Jacy Boles Goes The Distance For First-Career Win, Softball's Offense Erupts In 9-2 Victory Over CSUN To Earn Split

Northridge, CA– Freshman pitcher Jacy Boles went the distance in picking up her first-career win, and the UC Riverside Softball offense erupted in the team's 9-2 game two victory to earn a split on the day at CSUN.

GAME ONE CSUN 10, UCR 5

In the first game of the day, the Highlanders scored five runs late, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early damage done by committing four errors in their 10-5 loss to the Matadors.

CSUN got to starter Tayler Misfeldt for a run on three hits in the first. In the third, the Matadors scored four runs on just two hits as they were aided by a pair of UCR fielding errors.

A fielding error coupled with a throwing error extended a fourth inning that saw CSUN plate three runs having mustered just one hit, a two out two-run double.

Down 8-0 in the top of the fifth, the Highlanders staved off a mercy rule ending by scoring three runs in the inning. They tacked on two more in the sixth, but were unable to get a runner past second base in the seventh as they game ended 10-5 in favor of the home team.

Danielle Ortega had a pair of hits in the loss, and Maddy Richard drove-in two runs. Misfeldt was saddled with the loss. Her record dropped to 11-5 on the year.

GAME TWO UCR 9, CSUN 2

For the second game in a row, CSUN would put up a run in the first, however scoring was limited for the Matadors as freshman Jacy Boles held them to just two runs, and scattered seven hits in UCR's 9-2 series leveling victory.

Hannah Rodriguez led off the third inning with a single, followed by a Maddy Richard walk that brought bringing up Jenna Curtan.

Curtan laced a double to left center that scored Rodriguez and Richard to give the Highlanders a 2-1 lead.

With one out, Jenae Lockwood singled in Curtan. Following a Rebecca Faulkner base on balls, Brittney Garcia had a single to left that allowed Lockwood to score, making in 4-1 Highlanders.

In the top of the sixth, Garcia was hit by a pitch to start the inning, then following a Haley Harris single, pinch-hitter Sara Parten was also hit, which loaded the bases. Garcia would scamper home on a passed ball during a Richard at-bat.

Richard drew her third walk of the game to again load the bases, and once again Curtan delivered, this time with a single through the left side that plated Harris.

Ortega had an RBI groundout, and Chelsey Holley capped the inning with a sac-fly to put UCR comfortably ahead 8-1.

Boles, who continued to induce putouts, limited the Matadors just a hit per inning over the fourth, fifth, and sixth. In the bottom of the seventh, she allowed an RBI groundout before getting Katie Hooper to pop up to Rodriguez at short to end the game.

Boles notched her first career win for the blue and gold as well as logged her first complete-game performance of the year.

The series will be decided at 1 pm Sunday on Matador Diamond.
