RIVERSIDE, Calif.- The UC Riverside Men's and Women's Tennis Teams took home several Big West Conference honors today, as five athletes secured honorable mentions for their performances in the 2017-2018 season.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
The UCR Women's Tennis Team made the all-conference list thanks to tremendous doubles play from freshman
Tia Elpusan and sophomore
Sara Khattab, who were named Big West Doubles Honorable Mentions. The former high school teammates won 15 matches as a duo this year which is the program's all-time single season record. This Highlanders doubles team played primarily on court one during the dual match season grabbing nine wins in the top spot. In mid-March Elpusan and Khattab won five straight matches on court one, helping UCR to wins over Bradley and Drake.

MEN'S TENNIS
On the men's side, three Highlanders were named to the Honorable Mentions list as junior
Kyle McCann and freshman
Pawel Jankowiak were honored for their singles play, and the duo of McCann and freshman
Filip Engstrom made the doubles list.
Jankowiak was a true standout for UCR in first season as the freshman notched 13 singles wins in dual match play, 12 of which came on court one for the Highlanders. He held down the top spot for UCR posting a 9-3 record on court one in the month of March. Jankowiak also earned his 1st Big West Player of the Week Award on March 16th after an undefeated week at singles and doubles.
McCann posted a 20-11 record in singles play this season for the Highlanders playing primarily on courts two and three and was truly dominant in the 2nd half of the season earning 15-4 record to close out the season, which includes a nine-match win streak. The junior earned the Big West Player of the Week Award after going undefeated on the team's East Coast road trip in late March.
The doubles duo of McCann and Engstrom had an impressive dual match season posting a team best 18-8 record, playing primarily on court two. The team ended the season strong winning 11 of its last 14 matches.
