UC Riverside picked up a 8-2 win over Sacred Heart in the second day of the Saint Mary’s Invitational in Moraga, CA Saturday afternoon. UCR (11-18) dropped their first game of the day, 4-3 to Saint Mary’s but banged out 10 hits in their win against SHU later in the day.
Senior starting pitcher Christin Songer (4-5) struck out six and allowed only two earned runs to pick up the complete game victory against Sacred Heart. Freshman third baseman Brooke Hebenton launched her first career home run and junior centerfielder Tiana Towns along with senior second baseman April Murray each collected two hits for the Highlanders.

Junior first baseman Katie Curtis brought home the first Riverside run with a sac fly in the first and senior catcher Cassie Greenawalt singled home the second run of the inning for an early 2-0 lead.
The Highlanders broke it open in the third as Towns opened the scoring with a two-out single down the left field line and Hebenton followed one batter later with her three-run shot over the centerfield fence to put UCR up 7-0.
Songer hit a little bump in the road in the sixth as Sacred Heart brought two runs across with three hits but she escaped further damage by striking out the final batter to end the inning. UCR tacked on one more run in the seventh to pick up the 8-2 win.
