Scott Clayton Finishes Tied For 23rd
Less than 24 hours after shooting the best team round of the day at the St. Mary's Invitational and vaulting into 7th place from 15th, the UC Riverside Men's Golf Team collectively faltered dropping into a 14th place finish.
Scott Clayton led Monday afternoon's charge firing a tournament-low 65 in the second round and trailed the tournament leader and eventual winner, Domingo Jojola (San Francisco), by just three strokes. However, the San Bernardino junior posted a third-round 78 falling back to 23rd overall. Andrew Patipaksiri (Cypress, CA) who shot rounds of 71-72 on the first day and was tied for 11th place coming into this morning's tee time, also struggled shooting a 79 on the day and finishing in a tie for 48th.
Mark Alvarez (Pomona, CA) rebounded from a first-round 80 to post a score of 69 in the second round on Monday, but found the going rough on Tuesday as well posting a 79 and dropping back into a tie for 67th. Temecula, CA native Emerson Wood was more consistent, shooting an 80-71-75 for the tournament and finishing tied for 61st. Apple Valley, CA's Bruce Doucet (82-77-73) was the lone member of the Highlanders five who was able to improve upon his Monday scores.
UC Riverside has two weeks off before heading to Long Beach, CA for the Del Walker Invitational on October 16 and 17.
