
Brenda Martinez To Compete In NCAA Indoor T&F Championships

On Monday, March 9, the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Committee announced the participants in the 2009 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships scheduled for March 13-14. Among the names listed was that of UC Riverside's own Brenda Martinez. She becomes the first-ever Highlanders Track & Field athlete to compete in the Division I indoor championships.
On February 14, Martinez ran the mile in a school-record time of 4:39.92 at the Husky Classic. That time ranked her in the top 10 in the nation, and now it has her bound for the McFerrin Athletic Center in College Station, Texas this weekend
A total of 568 participants will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic or provisional standards established for each event.
