
Dilini Amarasekara Wins Big West Women's Field Player of the Week

RIVERSIDE, Calif.—Junior Dilini Amarasekara won the Big West Women's Field Athlete of the Week award on Tuesday thanks to her performance at the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic.
She claimed first place in the heptathlon with a lifetime best of 5,074 points, while also setting a personal-best in the javelin with a throw of 33.64m.
She won three events, including the 200m, long jump and javelin and took second place in the hurdles and the high jump. Her score leads the Big West and currently ranks third in the NCAA.
"I'm proud of Didi's hard work being rewarded," track and field director Nate Browne said. "Coach [Eric] Fremd and her work well together and the consistency in her events in this heptathlon showed. She's healthy, she's motivated and focused. There is more to come!"
