
Sprinters Lead the Way for Highlanders at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Michael Kojin took third place in the first heat of the Men's 200m Sprint, while Erik Cisneros finished with the eighth-fastest time overall in the Men's 100m Sprint, leading the way for the UC Riverside Track and Field Teams at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday.
Men
Kojin finished with the third-fastest overall time among the 93 athletes competing in the 200m, crossing the finish line at 21.37 seconds. That mark easily bested his previous top time of 2018 (21.62s) less than a tenth of a second off his school record (21.28s), set back in 2016.
Cisneros had the 15th-fastest time overall in the Men's 200m (22.14s), but performed even better in the Men's 100m (10.89s), good for eighth-fastest out of 83 sprinters.
In the Men's 1500m, Brandon Shields and Andres Delgado finished less than three seconds apart. Shields (4:03.22) time was the Highlanders' second-fastest of the season, while Delgado (4:05.74) and Jack Frimodig (4:07.54) recorded similar times.
Nick Abboud set a new 2018-best in the Men's 110m Hurdles, taking third in his heat with a time of 15.32 seconds.
Women
Leading the way on the women's side was Victoria Sandoval, whose 100m Sprint time of 12.47 seconds was the 19th-fastest overall and good for the third-fastest of the year for the Highlanders.
Rachel Wiggins put up the fourth-fastest mark of the season for the Highlanders in the 400m Run (60.23s) and the sixth-fastest mark in the 200m (25.86s).
Cydney Branch posted the 22nd-fastest time out of 97 runners in the Women's 800m (2:18.11s), less than three seconds off her top time of the season.

UC Riverside returns home next Friday to host the Highlander Twilight.
