
Track and Field Concludes Weekend of Competition at Several Meets

WALNUT, AZUSA & LONG BEACH, Calif. – The UC Riverside Track and Field Teams continued to improve with another successful set of competition this Thurs-Sat, splitting their forces between the Mt. Sac Relays, the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational, and the Beach Invitational.

Kenady Jackson got out to a fast start in her 400m Run heat, taking second place with a lifetime best mark of 56.92 seconds.
The Women's 4x100m Relay team of Sirai Thompson, Camille Deadwiler, Victoria Sandoval and Destiny Mitchell moved into No. 8 all-time in the UCR record books with a time of 46.66 seconds.
UCR's men's relay teams also found success. Erik Cisneros, Michael Kojin, Nathan Noble and Carlos Wedlow took second in their 4x100m Relay heat, crossing the finish line at 41.42 seconds. Then, in the 4x400, Blake Gelinas, Matthew Reyes, Jose Cruz and Van Setten finished at 3:18.79, taking first in their heat.
Heinrich Van Niekerk shined in the 800m Run, surpassing Carlos Lopez for third in program history with a time of 1:50.70. Finishing right behind Van Niekerk for third-place in their heat was Ethan Van Setten, who ran a lifetime best 1:51.34, good for seventh in school history.

Isaac Acosta and Jack Frimodig both earned top-five finishes in the Men's 5000m, as Acosta (15:07.98) took second and Frimodig (15:23.44) finished in fifth.
Jason Spatter set a new personal-best in the 800m at 1:54.32, while Van Setten nearly set a personal-best for the second straight day by finishing second in his heat at 1:52.12.
Ryan Ayale won his heat in the 400m with a lifetime best of 50.04.
In the Women's 200m, Kenady Jackson ran a wind legal season-best of 24.69.

Anthony Reyes finished first out of seven competitors in the Triple Jump, posting a 2018-best of 14.19m (46-06.75).
Jessica Tobias and Victoria Teraji set personal-bests in the Hammer Throw with tosses of 49.86m and 49.43m, respectively.

The Highlanders will head to Irvine from April 27-28 for the Steve Scott Invitational.
