Las Vegas, NV - Taking a two-week break from competition for final exams, the UC Riverside women's tennis team returned to the courts at the Las Vegas Challenge for a neutral match against Southern Utah on Thursday afternoon, and it didn't seem like the Highlanders (6-8) missed a beat as they downed the Thunderbirds 7-0.
UCR won the doubles point as Erynne Oki and Roxanne Plata won easily at the top spot 8-1, while Donna McCullough and Angelique Corpuz took home an 8-5 victory in the middle. Yasaman and Nadia Sakhakorn paired up at the third doubles spot, winning 8-3 for a Highlander sweep.
In singles action, UCR was strong throughout the entire lineup. Oki defeated Ksusha Nazarova 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 singles spot, while McCullough picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2. Nadia Sakhakorn defeated Martha Kruk 6-2, 6-1 at the third spot while Corpuz won her fifth straight singles match with a 6-3, 7-5 win at the fourth position. Plata and Yasaman Sakhakorn rounded out the Highlander lineup with two more wins.
UC Riverside remains in Las Vegas for a 10 am match with Idaho State on Friday.
