UCSB 3, UCR 1 - Box Score
Santa Barbara, CA - The UC Riverside softball team looked to pick up their first opening Big West Conference series win since making the move to Division I in 2002 after splitting the doubleheader at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday. The Gauchos (18-13, 2-1), though, bested the Highlanders in the rubber game with a 3-1 decision. UCR falls to 12-20, but their 1-2 start in Big West play ties their best-ever Division I start.
The Highlanders plated their lone run of the game in the third inning on a Gaucho error that allowed Kameryn Hebenton to score from third base. UCR could get no more runners across as UCSB touched pitcher Marissa Alvidrez for two runs in the fourth and an insurance run in the sixth for the 3-1 win.
UCR returns to the diamond for their first home conference series at Amy S. Harrison Field on Saturday-Sunday April 4-5 against Cal State Fullerton. First pitch is noon.
