RIVERSIDE - Cristina Olivas raced through Riverside in her Acura sports car growing more frantic by the minute. UC Riverside track teammate Jessica Hogan was in the passenger's seat with another teammate - Brenda Martinez - sprawled out in the back seat and getting more incoherent as time passed.
Neither could have imagined the severity of the medical crisis Martinez was facing.
"She could barely talk. Her hands were closed tight and she was crying," Olivas recalled. "She asked if I could go any faster. I was trying not to panic but I knew it was bad."
