5/30/2009 2:06:45 PM | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
UCR's Brenda Martinez found herself in the middle of the pack coming out of Oregon's legendary Bowerman Curve, but crushed the competition over the final 200m winning the NCAA West Regional Championship in the 1500m by more than 10 meters. (Watch Brenda's interview after the race)
Chad Hall took sixth in the men's 1500m as the top three finishers all broke the meet record. Although his finish does not guarantee him a spot at the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas in June, Hall could still receive an at large bid once athletes declare for the NCAAs. The men's team finished in 25th place behind Hall's finish. (Watch Chad's interview after the race)
Ashley Williams, running in the final of the 800m, finished in sixth place with a time of 2:09.69 and like Hall will have to wait until later in the week to see if she qualifies for the NCAAs. In the triple jump, Lauren Reid's leap of 41' 9.25" was good enough for seventh place, The women finished in a tie for 14th place - their best finish ever at the West Regional.
