Men's Cross Country, Chad Hall Place Second At Big West Championships

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside men's cross country team finished just two points out of first place on Saturday morning at the Big West Conference Championships, tallying 66 points to UC Davis' 64. Chad Hall paced the Highlanders with a second place finish to earn All-Conference honors for the second straight year.
UCR's second place finish is their best-ever Big West finish in the 10-year Division I history of the program. The team's previous best was third place, back in 2007 and 2008.
The top-four teams were separated by just 12 points, as UC Santa Barbara finished in third place with 70 points and Long Beach State placed fourth with 76 points.
Cal Poly came in fifth with 90 points followed by UC Irvine (119), Cal State Fullerton (199), and Cal State Northridge (248).
UC Davis' Jon Peterson won the 8k race in 23:40.2, 17 seconds ahead of UCR's Hall.
The next four Highlanders runners were packed together as Seth Totten finished 14th in 24:45.1, Steven Crum 15th in 24:46.2, Omar Gonzalez 16th with a time of 24:47.4, and Talal Khan 19th in 24:50.7.
Brett Valencia finished in 30th place for UCR in 25:17.1, while Carlo Ordinola rounded out the squad with a 54th place finish in 26:23.1.
On the women's side, the UC Riverside women's cross country team finished in fourth place out of nine squads with Damajeria DuBose placing 15th to lead the Highlanders.
The Highlanders now head to the NCAA West Regionals in Eugene, OR on Saturday, Nov. 13.
