Highlanders Fall To No. 11/13 Ranked Stanford 9-1 In Five Innings

Palo Alto, CA - The UC Riverside softball team continued play at the Stanford Nike Invitational on Friday with a 9-1 loss in five innings to the host Stanford Cardinal, ranked No. 11/13 in the latest national polls.

The Highlanders (2-4) put one run on the board in the game as Alexis Villamor, pinch running after Marissa Alvidrez's (pictured) double to open the fifth inning, scored on on error by the Cardinal third baseman.

The Cardinals touched UCR starter Amy Lwin for six runs on nine hits in four innings, and Casey Suda came in for relief and gave up three runs in 0.1 innings. Due to the eight-run rule, the game ended with one out and one runner left on base for Stanford in the fifth.

The Highlanders continue play at the Stanford Nike Invitational with a 6:00 pm game against Illinois and a 8:15 pm game against Fresno State on Saturday, Feb. 20.
